Health & Wellness : beauty basics

Hello, everyone! Today, we want to talk about beauty. Every week, we look at fashion, jewelry, accessories, lifestyle and food but beauty is also a key element to your style and your look.

This list is a personal take on beauty and products, compiling both American and French products. With this list, you’ll have a pretty awesome beauty ‘closet’, and we kept it summer themed, so you can have fun with beauty products you don’t always get to use. Enjoy!

Let’s start with the face. You’re going to want to remove your make-up every night before going to sleep. We advise the Oil make-up remover from Origins. It hydrates and soothes your skin at the same time. To wash it off after, you can choose among the Michael Todd products, very good quality and price. After that, you should use a tonic to hydrate your skin. We personally love the Instant Boost Skin Tonic from Liz Earle. After all of that, use a real hydrating cream to finish your face routine. We recommend using the Eclat de Jour cream from the french brand Clarins. It’s really the lightest and smoothest cream you could ever find.

Then, let’s talk make-up. If you want to keep that California glow and that natural beachy look, you might want to go easy on the make-up but here are a few basics you can always use to get the perfect ‘nude’ look. First things first, use a primer to make your face even before applying any powder or foundation. The Smashbox iconic photo finish foundation primer is a must-have. Then, you have two options: either you get a real foundation and since the sun is always out here, you should get the sun protection compact foundation from Shisheido (SPF 30); or you take the bronzing powder option and get the Terracotta from Guerlain, the mythical french summer bronzer. Then, a little mascara from Cover Girl (the Bombshell volume by Lashblast)  and a little fruity lip balm and you’re all set for your summer makeup routine.

During the summer, you will expose a lot more skin then you usually do, so it’s important to take care of your body in a thorough way. Wax, scrub, a little tan and a lot of cream. Whatever your waxing choice is, you should always use a good body scrub to make sure your skin is soft, healthy and your glow will stay put. We recommend the Flake Away scrub from Soap and Glory. In terms of body cream, you have a couple of choices. You can either use a body soufflé (the one from Origins is to die for) or go with a body oil like the Huile Prodigieuse, from Nuxe. You can even throw a little glitter with that one and shine all over the place at pool parties. For a perfect summer vibe or ‘I woke up like this’ look, you need to find the best salt sprays for beach-worthy waves in your hair. We personally prefer the Bumble and Bumbler Surf Spray but there are many more products to achieve that same look. And finally, the final summer touch will be the nail polish. Hands and toes don’t have to match. We usually keep a simple, easy to match color on the hands light a light pink and then go crazy on the toes with a bright orange or a ocean blue.

That’s it for today. Let us know your summer beauty routine and your favorite products. Do you have any of the ones listed here? What’s your favorite? We want to hear from you.
